Evidence-based nutrition for your specific needs
Offering virtual nutrition counselling
I’m Sarah, a Registered Dietitian and self-proclaimed lover of all things plants (tropical houseplants included). I’m passionate about using the power of plant-based nutrition in order to optimize gut health and improve overall quality of life for my clients. Not plant-based? No problem! I work with all shapes and sizes of eating patterns. I specialize in helping adults struggling with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other digestive problems get a handle on their symptoms so that they can focus their energy on what matters most to them while still enjoying the foods they love. Don't have digestive concerns but still looking for nutrition help? Please feel free to reach out to me with your specific concerns! I commonly provide counselling in the following areas:
- Heart health / Cholesterol management
- Transitioning to a plant-based/vegetarian/or vegan diet
- Improving relationship with food through Intuitive Eating principles
- Women's health, such as pregnancy and PCOS
- Anemia / Low iron levels
- Optimizing nutrition intake for overall health and longevity
- Do you find yourself experiencing any of the following digestive symptoms?
-
- Bloating
- Abdominal pain / cramps
- Constipation or diarrhea (or both!)
- Excessive gas
- Reflux / heartburn
- Do you resonate with any of the following scenarios?

- Losing precious time and energy spent worrying about how your body might react to certain foods or situations

- Experiencing frustration or anger with your body and how it seems to be against you
- Accumulating missed work days
- Feeling confused about all the conflicting nutrition information out there
- Imagine if you were able to get a solid handle on managing your symptoms, what would that look like for you?
-
How about:
- Going to a restaurant and enjoying your friends’ company and the menu versus immediately seeking out the location of the bathroom
- Knowing your personal food and lifestyle triggers and being able to trust and enjoy food
- Spending your mental energy on things other than food and your body
- Having the tools to know how to handle flares when they do happen

I grew up in Beautiful British Columbia in Canada and then moved to Sunny Southern California for university. I attended Loma Linda University where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition & Dietetics (with highest honours ) in 2009. Fast forward a few years and I’m back home in the Okanagan where I’m passionate about helping my clients get the results they want so they can live a life that they deserve. I am registered through the College of Dietitians of BC in Canada and the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics in the US. I am also trained on the use of the low FODMAP diet through Monash University. I have worked in many different settings over the years, from fitness and physio centers, to clinical practice, to outpatient, and now to private practice. I chose to focus on digestive health as I know first-hand how frustrating digestive issues can be and I want to help others overcome similar issues. I also find the continually emerging science on the gut microbiome fascinating and how adding more plant foods into our diet can shift our health trajectory in the best possible way. Outside of the food and nutrition realm, I have many other interests including skiing, wakesurfing, and playing volleyball and piano. I’m also a lover of puns, which is why I say things like: my business Planted Nutrition grew out of the conviction that nutrition should be grounded in sound research, evidence-based recommendations, and individualized care with the goal of helping my clients to flourish and lead plantiful lives! Ok, enough of that - you get the point :)
I operate from an anti-diet, weight-inclusive approach, focusing on health-promoting behaviors as opposed to the number on the scale. I defy diet culture and the plethora of pseudoscience bombarding us every single day. I utilize Intuitive Eating and mindfulness principles to help improve your relationship with food and your body. While Planted Nutrition encompasses plant-based nutrition principles, I believe that anyone can benefit from eating more plants (vegan or bacon-lover alike!). There are also no assumptions or judgments based on your current eating patterns nor pressure to convert to a completely plant-based diet. This is a supportive and compassionate space for all who are seeking to improve their health and I am here to assist you along your journey to help you meet your specific health goals.
Fun Fact:
Loma Linda, California happens to be one out of nine Blue Zones, which are communities throughout the world known for their longevity. I grew up with these health-promoting and life-prolonging principles, so I am not new to the plant-based game and all of its many benefits - I can’t wait to share it with you!
